oldtimefamilybaseball: It’s no Cliff Lee, but the Yankees made a pretty great deal as they’ve reached an agreement with Russell Martin to handle their catching duties next season. If Russell Martin bounces back, great, the Yankees have a new starting catcher. If not, the Yankees have Jesus Montero waiting in the wings just waiting for his Super Two eligibility to pass him by. Even better, Jorge Posada will now get to rest his legs and become the full time DH. This does make me a little depressed as I was hoping Russell Martin was going to become the greatest super utility player in the game. He would be the jack of all trades that could could play third, first, left and right, as well as catch a few times a week. Just think of the kind of roster flexibility team’s would have with a player like that. It’s making me salivate a little just thinking about it.
