harpermd:

I’ve been getting through this long Wednesday by thinking about baseball and specifically Dodgers baseball. This is probably the third time I’ve tumbl’d the Scully call for this play, but everything about why I love baseball is in this clip.

I remember last year after Manny’s pinch hit grand slam on his own bobble head night there were people trying to rank that up there with this moment. Very few at bats in the history of baseball come close to this one, and lets face it… a lot of that is owed to Mr. Scully. The build up describing Gibson’s injuries, the analysis, the home run call, and then most importantly … the silence. Listening to the crowd go nuts with no commentary what so ever as Gibson limps around the bases and is greeted by his teammates and then… “In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened!” There are many people that could have done what Gibson did, but there is nobody, and I mean NOBODY that could have done it better than Vin. A moment that will never be forgotten by Dodger fans, baseball fans, and especially Eckersley.

Residents of Los Angeles : We have it pretty good. I spent a little time checking out season ticket plans for rest of the MLB teams today and came up with some interesting facts.

• Our full season Top Deck plan ($332 dollars) is the second cheapest full season plan in baseball. The Atlanta Braves come in first with a plan that is $249 Dollars. However it is nowhere near as close to the action as our Top Deck. The Pirates are a close 3rd with a $399 dollar plan

• Most teams lowest price plan is 700-1200 dollars.

• The Cubs only have a waiting list, the Red Sox know that nobody is dumb enough to even try to get on a waiting list because they’ll be dead before their number is called, and the Yankees have season tickets but wont give out the info or let you buy them anymore.

• When you buy season tickets for the Giants you get to meet any player you want on the 2010 roster at some point during the season.

• The Reds have the best mini plan name - “Baker’s Dozen”, you know… cuz their manager is Dusty Baker.

So there you have it. Dodgers top deck is the best deal in baseball as far as I’m concerned. This will be my second year having a full plan, and probably not my last.

I had this great post all saved with a bunch of Dodgers links for you to enjoy, but it didn’t save in my queue. So I am going to post this story by Vin Scully Is My Homeboy. Roberto posted his account of seeing Barry Bonds at the Dodgers caravan last week, and it has been picked up by Yahoo and Deadspin. Pretty Impressive!

Dodger Stadium Sunset

I’ve posted a lot of my own Dodger Stadium pics, and normally wouldn’t add any more that weren’t my own, but this is my first submission from a reader. So I thought I’d post it to remind you that you can submit photos, stories, links, etc by clicking the submit button in the right hand column of the site. Submitted by Mateo Enriquez - Thanks Mateo.

1986 L.A Dodgers “Baseball Boogie Bunch”

I know, you’ve seen it, but still. How much would you kill for a 2010 sequel of the Baseball Boogie? Maybe Matt Kemp could get his lady friend Rhianna to do a guest spot.
Went to Dodger Stadium today for the Select A Seat event. This is the view from our tickets for this year. Got a full plan on the top deck .. 700 for 2 seats. Sooooo excited. Opening Day get here faster!!!

The Dodgers are hiring an interpreter. If you get the job, get me some sweet seats yeah?

Brad Ausmus is back as well as our backup catcher. Looks like another year in the minors for AJ Ellis. Jim Thome has found a new home as a Twin, I’m glad Jim-Jam found a home for another year. Jon Garland is a Padre, not too concerned about it. Thoughts?

Belliard is back. According to multiple twitters and bloggers, the Dodgers have re-signed Ronnie Belliard to a 1 year deal. You might remember Ronnie as the guy who replaced Orlando Hudson at 2nd down the stretch into the NLCS last year. You might know him now as the guy who just made Blake Dewitt sign another lease on apartment in Albuquerque. I loved Belliard last year and like many other people I am left to ask, why did we sign Jamey Carroll?

I posted it on my baseball card blog, but had to put it up here too. Sure to be the best Dodger card of 2010.

After settling contracts for all 9 arbitration eligible players, The Dodgers have signed Vicente Padilla to a 1 year contract. I liked Padilla’s brief performance for us last year and look forward to having him if can avoid shooting himself or resorting to his previous on field antics again.

I can’t wait for spring training.

Good. Both were arb-eligible for the first time.
