I’ve been busy.
So as our post season chances slipped a bit further away, Manny heads to Chicago. It feels like my memories of him as a Dodger are equally good and bad. For every clutch home run there is a terrible defensive or base running play.

You know how Casey Blake went all grand slammy last night in the Dodgers victory? Turns out Torre was wearing one of these amazing “In Beard We Trust” tee-shirts from The LFP.

“As Torre spoke, his jersey was unbuttoned far enough to reveal a blue T-shirt underneath, on which was an illustration of a large coin with a profile of third baseman Casey Blake and the words “In Beard We Trust” arching across the top. If Torre is superstitious enough to think winning the past two games without Ramirez warrants keeping him out of the lineup for another day, then surely he is superstitious enough to wear that T-shirt every night — maybe even without washing, perhaps? — until the winning streak ends.”

This is Vin’s stellar outfit from today, which sent my TV into a frenzy. Never change, Vin. And welcome back…again.
I’ll re-blog every Scully post that I see. Bring ‘em on!Vin Scully is coming back to announce games in 2011! For all that is wrong with the world, this is just so right.
This is the best news of the week / month / year.Vin Scully announced today that he will be returning next year as the broadcaster for the Dodgers.
Personally, I was relieved he made this decision. The Dodgers are not my favorite team, but I’d say they are my number 3 team behind the Tigers and Rangers. I’ve gotten in the habit of curling up on the couch and half-watching, half-listening to the Dodgers if they’re at home or in the NL west so I can listen to Mr. Scully when I’m unable to sleep (if you know me, you know this is often). In my experience I wind up falling asleep much faster this way than when I just lay in bed, even if big plays are made in the game and I get woken up a couple times.
After the passing of Ernie Harwell I watched the Dodgers several nights in a row seeking comfort, hoping for some stories about Ernie, as they were good friends. He did talk about Ernie a little, but before too long ended his off-topic commentary with his usual “Now let’s get back to this one…”. If only he knew how good it is for fans to hear him just be himself.
Enough personal stuff from me, though, I’d rather point out the obvious: Baseball needs Vin Scully. Most importantly, the Dodgers need him too.
